How to set up secure Passwords for your airport

As a Superuser, you have the ability to increase the forced security of the passwords used. The default policy, without being changed, will function exactly as our passwords do now.

1
Login to your Passport account and select the 'Airport' tab on the left hand side and then 'Settings'. Click on the 'Password policies' tab.

2
You will see on this page you will see the current password policies for your airport. By default, all user roles are under the ‘Default’ policy shown below.. click the pen icon to edit a current policy.

3
In this example the Default policy is set to all users. As I am editing the 'Default' password policy this will be se for  all users. However, if policies have already been created you will be able to configure password policies here. You can set a minimum password length, whether it should have caps/ symbols/ numbers. You can also force a password to expire after a set time period, stop old passwords being reused. Lock users out after a number of failed attempts.

Once configured to your requirements press save. If you wish to create a password policy for specific user permissions please see the next section.

How to set up secure Passwords for a specific user permission/s

Here you can split out different permissions into their own Password policy.

1

Login to your Passport account and select the 'Airport' tab on the left hand side and then 'Settings'. Click on the 'Password policies' tab.

2

First you will need to remove any user permissions you need from the 'Default' policy settings. Click the pen icon.

3

In this example I will be setting up a password Policy for Super Users and Airport Administrators.  Each user role can only be included in one password policy, so we'll need to remove the permissions from the policy they are currently in first. To add a role to a new policy Click on the 'x' next to the permissions you are creating a new policy for, to remove them from the current policy.

Click the pen icon again to collapse the editor for that policy

4

Then scroll right to the bottom of the page and click 'Add new policy'

And then the pen symbol

5

Here you will then give your policy a name and select the permissions you require. You will only be offered permissions that aren't already in another policy. So the ones we removed from the Default policy in the last step.

6

Here we can configure the password settings for users that have the Super User access and the Airport Administrator Access. You can set a minimum password length, whether it should have caps/ symbols/ numbers. You can also force a password to expire after a set time period, stop old passwords being reused. Lock users out after a number of failed attempts.

You can also switch on Multi-factor authentication here which is an extra level of security for those accounts. They will need to provide a 6-digit code generated from an approved authentication app each time they log in. Toggle this on before saving to add this to your policy.

Once configured to your requirements press save.

7

You will then have your 2 policies showing under 'Password policies' for your Airport. These can be edited or new ones added at any time by coming back to this page. Click on the pen item to edit a current policy or the 'Add new policy item' to create a new one.
